Leg 1, Ride 6: Kenosha to Lake Bluff

State #2! A short ride today: just 26 miles to Lake Bluff, Illinois.

There's not much at all in Lake Bluff, at least not near our motel, so we spent the entire morning lingering in Kenosha.

Kenosha Kenosha

Our Kenosha hotel was right next to a bike shop, and they let us top up our tire pressure. I also realized I forgot to bring a shrader/presta adapter, so I grabbed one of those in case it's needed later.

It was Station Wagon Month at the Kenosha History Center. So, there was a nice display of a '65 Rambler Classic Cross-Country, a '70 Rebel, and a '76 Matador with fake wood. But the star of the show was definitely the '74 Hornet Sportabout.

We also took a ride on the Kenosha Streetcar. Fun fact: Kenosha has the 3rd-largest fleet of PCC streetcars in the world. San Francisco is #1, and Philadelphia is #2. Boston's Mattapan High-Speed Line is #4. Note: Mattapan's PCC cars are going away soon, so if you've never ridden the MHSL, you should go do that!

Lunch was at an amazing 50's-style drive-in restaurant. We got spicy fried green beans and root beer floats.

The ride itself was uneventful: good weather, if a bit chilly at the start. We did have a headwind, but not a very strong one. I can't really recommend Lake Bluff, Illinois -- very car-centric to the extent that there aren't even crosswalks at the lights, and sidewalks just abruptly stop.
