Leg 1, Ride 7: Lake Bluff to Chicago

We made it to Chicago, and to the end of the first leg! We are still in good spirits and we're feeling pretty good. I think we made the right call by keeping the mileages low early in the trip, to try to work ourselves into shape gradually.

Today's ride was smooth and uneventful. Beautiful weather all day, and for a change, we were not fighting a headwind today.

Today's ride was almost exclusively on off-road trails. Started kinda boring on an arrow-straight trail under powerlines. But, as we got closer to the city, it got nicer, winding through parks and wooded areas, past lagoons and a botanical garden.

Marna's brother Peter met us at Superdawg, our second drive-in restaurant in two days, and he led us back to his house.

So far, we've gone 204 miles, a little over 12% of the way home.

We'll be taking a couple of days off here in Chicago, visiting family and exploring the city a bit. The next leg of the trip will head south into Indiana, before curving back up the west side of Michigan.
