Leg 2, Ride 3: Hobart to Union Pier

What a great ride today was. Easily the most varied day in terms of scenery so far. Another chilly morning. 45F when we were leaving!

This was our first ride over 50 miles, as we continue to work ourselves into shape. I was expecting the last half of today to be a bit of slog, but I actually feel pretty good still. Tomorrow will be a bit longer of a ride, so we'll see how that goes.

It's late, I didn't sleep well last night, and I want to go to bed soon. So, I'm not going to write a lot today. Suffice to say that, if you get a chance to cycle through NW Indiana, you should do it!

Highlights:

  • Rail trails!
  • A National Park!
  • Demo homes built for the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, then moved to Indiana!
  • Michigan City, Indiana!
  • Lighthouses!
  • New Buffalo, Michigan!
  • Swamps!
  • Forests!
  • Dunes!
  • Beaches!
  • Ever-receding views of Chicago!
  • Sunset over Lake Michigan!

Today we ended in state #4: Michigan. Goodbye Central Time Zone! We'll be in Michigan basically forever until we cross into Canada at the end of the month.
